Hand Sewing Camp

from $480.00

June 23-August 15

9am- 3pm

Ages 5 and up

SewLeana’s Hand Sewing Camp is a fun introduction to sewing and fiber arts! Each week we will explore different themes, create cute projects that build our sewing skills, and have fun with imaginative play.

This year’s theme is Sew Around the World! We will be exploring sewing and fiber arts traditions from various countries and regions.

Some projects will include batik, weaving, block print, embroidery, natural dyes, and so much more! Each week we will learn a new word like Shibori, Bogolanfini, Kente, and terms like resist dye and oxidization to describe the techniques and the science behind each tradition. Students will explore language and storytelling through Western African textile traditions, and various embroidery techniques from India and Japan. We will also look at Native American traditions as well as various fiber arts from South America and Scandinavia. There is so much to explore! This is one of our favorite camp themes and we can’t wait to share!

Campers will develop hand eye coordination; fine motor skills; math skills; and an understanding of basic sewing concepts. We find that kids who take our hand sewing classes do really well in our machine sewing classes.

The daily morning schedule consists of sewing each morning with a snack break, lunch in the park, and time to play outside. The afternoon schedule includes a snack/dance break plus a fun fiber art project each like tie dye, felting, sun printing or weaving.

Camp runs for one week but campers are free to sign up for more than one week as projects will vary. Use code SIBLING for 10% savings for siblings.

Weekly themes include:

  • Week 1 June 23-27- Japan

  • Week 2 June 30- July 3 - Scandinavia
